The following video has received a lot of attention on You Tube.
The video is entitled "Open Season" and is by a band named Stuck Mojo. I’ve seen a variety of comments made towards this video. First came the charge that the members of the band were racist. This always seems to be the first response to controversial statements made by conservatives. Personally I think making this charge is a intellectual cop-out. Rather than attempting to expose the flaws in your opponents argument, you attempt to discredit him by calling him a name. Most people left such behavior in grade school. The rest (we call them liberals) call it a debating tactic.
The next charge claimed that the band members were calling for the slaughter of all Muslims. I would consider this charge to originate from the lazy among us since the lyrics clearly state that it is Islamic-fanatics, who call for the death of innocents, which are the target.
Finally it has been charged that this song calls for the attack of innocent civilians. Again this comment comes from the lazy among us since the lyrics also state that the declaration of "Open Season" is against those who attack us first.
The first line of the first verse reads:
I speak peace when peace is spoken, But I speak war when your hate is provoking
The Chorus reads:
My forefathers fought and died for this here
I’m stronger than your war of fear
Are we clear?
If you step in my hood
It’s understood
It’s open season
Personally I feel this video is long overdue. The United States has been provoked and attacked by boys who hide among us and ambush the innocent who can not retaliate. This kind of injustice is not permitted in the Western world and it naturally provokes people to anger. This video is an expression of that anger and I find no fault with it or its message.
Stuck Mojo deserves some credit for finally putting the American’s anger to words and for having the courage to stand up and shout it out loud. I wonder how long it will take before they start receiving death threats from followers of "The religion of peace and tolerance."
